Miss Universe Selection Committee Will Have Another Filipina This Year

Skincare expert Olivia Quido will be joining the 71st Miss Universe selection committee

After having Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera as part of the 70th Miss Universe pageant, the organization is once again including a Filipino in the panel - Filipina businesswoman Olivia Quido.

The announcement was made over a virtual press conference that included members of the Philippine media and pageant bloggers. Olivia Quido will be joining beauty queens Ximena Navarrete, Wendy Fitzwilliam, and Olivia Jordan; rapper Big Freedia, journalist Emily Austin, executives Sweta Patel and Kathleen Ventrella, and model Mara Martin.

During the press conference, Quido revealed that she had actually been named a part of the selection as early as the first quarter of 2022, an honor that left her “overwhelmed.”

Just like Marian before her, Quido shared that being part of the selection committee picking the next Miss Universe is no easy task, even showing the journalists present at the videoconference the book containing the resumes and achievements of the contestants.

Quido shared that she has already met with the other members of the selection committee and have gotten to know each other, although they have not yet discussed who they feel deserves the crown. However, Quido did share with the local journalists that she would be looking for “authenticity” from the candidates.

“I'm looking for authenticity, she should also have global substance. It is very important for her to be the representation of the brand,” she said.

This is a step up for Quido, whose Olivia Quido Clinical Skincare has been a skincare sponsor for the pageant since 2019. The brand is still a sponsor for this upcoming pageant.

The 71st Miss Universe coronation will be held on January 15, Philippine time. The country is represented by Celeste Cortesi, who just finished participating in the pageant's preliminary competition and wore a cape featuring the handprints of children from Marawi during the swimsuit competition.

Celeste will be competing from the “Force for Good” crown, which features 110 carats of blue sapphires and 48 carats of white diamonds.
